Community Links has been working with communities in South Lanarkshire for more than 20 years. When we began work, our main role was to facilitate dialogue between communities and service providers with a view to improving services.
We’ve always moved with the times and have responded to what’s going on in the world. There can be few, if any, bigger issues now than climate change. The challenge is figuring out what we can do about it here in South Lanarkshire. As well as delivering local action through our own services and events, we want to support people in South Lanarkshire to do the things that you want to do.
We know that local people are already doing lots of things that can contribute to climate action.
We’re also SURE that there’s a thousand good ideas. Maybe you have one. Maybe you’d welcome a bit of help to explore the possibility and maybe make it happen? If so, our Community Development workers would love to hear from you.

Climate Action can be easy! It simply means doing small things like saving energy, using less stuff, and reusing things where we can.
Climate action can be affordable! We can save money while saving the planet. Using less energy and reducing waste actually cost less. It’s a win-win for our wallets and the world.
Climate action isn't exclusive to governments or big businesses; communities can make a difference too. When we work together, we can do things that we could never achieve on our own.
All over Scotland, people are getting together and doing something to make a difference. Crucially, everything they are doing is good for community as well as climate. Check out some of our community projects and services below:
Winter Warmer Land - our annual energy advice and saving event is simply designed to keep people warm while saving money and energy through distribution of FREE energy-saving devices and immediate access to expert advice.
Footprint - is our new community-led initiative providing free, good-quality donated shoes to families in South Lanarkshire. The project tackles both poverty and climate change: helping families ease the pressure of rising costs while extending the life cycle of footwear that still has plenty of use left.
Community Links Climate Action Festival was an exciting initiative - taking place from April 7th - 12th 2025 - to inspire change, showcase success, and engage the local community in meaningful climate action. Over seven days of vibrant events, we highlighted innovative projects, shared practical solutions, shared learning opportunities, and celebrated the power of working together to protect our planet.
Community Links Climate Action Festival 2025 delivered 12 events across Hamilton and Larkhall - in partnership with 7 local businesses, third-sector organisations, and statutory services - and attracted 685 participants.

We are currently seeking funding to deliver an even bigger celebration of local climate action in 2026 - we'll have more news early in the New Year.

Make a Meal Of It - our sustainable cooking project delivered in partnership with local business, Dunn's Food and Drinks - offers local people a series of opportunities to learn cooking skills in their professional kitchen through demonstrations with their award-winning chef, Donnie Munro.
Menus focus on affordable, healthy recipes that utilise local, low food-mile ingredients while introducing low energy and low food waste principles. All participants learn and eat together, and leave with a take-home bag with essential ingredients and recipes to replicate Chef's meals at home.
Make a Meal Of It demonstrates how accessible, local food choices can be affordable, sustainable, and delicious, fostering healthier habits and lasting community connections.

Carbon Literacy Training - The language and concepts around climate change can be confusing and contested. That's one of the reasons why - before we started work with communities on climate action - we invested in training all Community Links staff in Carbon Literacy, delivered by Scottish Communities Climate Action Network.
Armed with new knowledge and understanding, we are now able to deliver certified Carbon Literacy to local people, groups, and organisations.
If you would like to get involved and further your own understanding of climate issues, please get in touch to find out when our next Carbon Literacy training will be delivered.
